About the Course
Want to travel to India? Interested in knowing about Micro-Finance Institutions and NGOs working for Rural Development? If yes, this J-Term 2021course is for you!
The mission to the Indian states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh will provide students with hands-on experience with NGOs working for grassroots development and micro-finance institutions. Participants will interact with NGO professionals and rural Indian communities engaging in livelihood activities such as dairy, goat rearing and agriculture. The mission will also include visits to Delhi, Jaipur (the pink city) and the Taj Mahal.
About the Course Professor
Dr. Soni, an International Ford Foundation Fellow, holds an MSW from the University of Dehli, an MPA from Cornell University, and a PhD from University at Buffalo - SUNY. Her research focuses on NGOs and international development. Before coming to the U.S. to undertake graduate studies, Dr. Soni was a project executive at an NGO - PRADAN, an NGO specializing in microfinance and livelihood promotion among India's rural poor.
