William C. Altreuter is a practicing litigation attorney who has appeared in state and federal courts across New York State. He is a graduate of UB Law, and received his undergraduate degree from SUNY Geneseo. Since 1993 he has been a principal in the Buffalo based firm Altreuter Berlin, and has focused his practice on complex tort matters and cross-border litigation. He has lectured on a wide variety of topics on four continents, and has published on topics ranging from Alternative Dispute Resolution to “Webvertising. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Civil Practice Law and Rules, which reviews and comments on proposed legislation effecting New York’s code of civil procedure.
His academic interests include civil procedure and particularly discovery, humor as a critical and persuasive tool, and the culture of the legal profession, particularly as portrayed in film.
Mr. Altreuter is a board member of the Academy of Hospitality Industry Attorneys, a past member of the Advisory Board of WBFO, the National Public Radio outlet of the University at Buffalo, and a past Board President of Squeaky Wheel/Buffalo Media Resources. In addition to his legal publications he has written extensively on a variety of topics for Buffalo Spree, where his reviews, articles and profiles appear regularly.
